Stayed at the Sahara 7 nights over New Year 2003. Paid extra $ 10 per night for deluxe room in Tangiers Tower-well worth it. Booked over the net & requested high floor with great views but wasn't really expecting to get it 'cos guessed hotel would be full this time of year.
However, we were given a room on the 22nd floor overlooking the Strip-brilliant! Room was clean & spacious with plenty of drawer space (could have done with more clothes hangers in the wardrobe though & coffee maker would have been nice). Staff were friendly and helpful. Buffet o.k. for the money ($ 6.99 for dinner) but preferred the coffee shop-open 24 / 7, good food, great value. Although the hotel is at the far end of the Strip didn't find this a problem. We often walked to the centre (20 mins leisurely stroll), when we were feeling lazy jumped onto the CAT bus that stops outside the hotel-it runs up and down the Strip-only $ 2 per ride. Avoid the trolley bus-takes 30 mins to travel about 100 yards as it goes to the back / side / front entrance of every hotel! Casino at the Sahara was very busy when we were there, had to wait ages some nights to get onto a blackjack table although I guess this was because of the time of year. Most of the dealers were friendly and helpful to us novices (especially Dwayne-very funny guy!). Even found a couple of the pit bosses chatty (although this may have been when they heard our English accent!).

Beware staying at this hotel I was scammed out of $ 70 from a local guy in the hotel bottom line it was my fault allowing a stranger to make a bet for me but I want to believe there are some trusting people, from what I hear there are a lot of scammeres in vegas. I talked to David hotel manager about this he had a bad attitude and reminded me I was in vegas. The nascar food and sevice is HORRIBLE do not eat there not only my self say this but I heard the same from other hotel guests. I made a 37 minute phone call I was BILLED $ 70 just a phone call to ca not europe! Two krispy Kreme donuts and a large coffeee for one person the cost OVER $ 6 gosh forbid if you order a quick breakfast I overheard a lady telling me hers came to over $ 12. At the caravan cafe breakfast average $ 12 plus include your tip on top of that. There are hookers that hang out in the casino for sex the carpets are stained in the rooms not many tv stations the location is at the end of the strip. The pool is not heated if the temp is 60s-to 80s the water is FREEZING. If you are on welfare and you want to go to vegas then stay at the sahara horrible, horrible "roach hotel"! Bitten by bedbugs, hotel refused to refund money, transferred us to a managers room, mattress / boxspring on the floor with no other furniture. We were told to get refund from Hotels.Com. WE WERE LEAVING THE NEXT DAY SO WHAT DID THEY OFFER US ... A FREE 2-3 DAY STAY! THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT NEEDS TO CLOSE IT. WE NORMALLY STAY AT THE MGM. What horrible service, the manager refused to talk to us, they referred us to their insurance company which denied our claims stating that we were not treated at the hospital although their security collected several of the bugs as evidence and took pictures og our bites. No one cared about us.
